Interview :
Midi Deux : Hi Roberto. How are you ? did you have a good dinner ?
Roberto : Yes I am well, just got hom from work and my lovely girlfriend cooked me a great dinner :)
Haha great. so let's start talking about music and Affin because we wouldn't get in touch without Joachim. What can you tell me about this label ?
Well the label has been going for quite some time now. I was a big fan of the label before i got involved. So i tried my luck and sent joachim some of my music and he loved it. He's been really supportive and has abled me to progress my sound.

And now, do you want to work a long time on this label ?
Yes definately, I believe an ongoing relationship is key. I also think that a lot of young producers think that a label will make big things happen and they don't need to put in any effort. I always think, what can i bring to the label and what can the label do for me. I managed to get samuel l session to remix one of my tracks which will come later in the year on Affin. So its a 2 way process.
In my techno listener opinion, I really think Affin is a great label for producers, I like the Affin's state of mind...
Can you describe the evolution of the EPs you published on other labels ?
Well one of the first labels to pick up my stuff was Architronica who are based in Melbourne in Australia. They signed a number of my tracks which were supported by the likes of Terry Francis. I could develope my sound on there before moving on to labels like Affin, Artform and Outland. Then I met Jamei Anderson when I was playing in Liverpool last year and I sent him my tracks. He really encouraged me and signed up a number of my tracks. The first release was the Logical Prgression ep which represented more of a Detroit sound but my take on it. This then encouraged me to persue this sound.
Did you always produce what you wanted ?
Yes I would never release anything my heart wasnt in.
How did you get to this kind of techno ?
I guess it was just the way my tracks progressed. I always loved the detroit sound but the name 'Logical Progression' also represented me taking my sound to the next level. Here is one of my tracks on architronica called the cougar. This was and still is heavily supported by Terry Francis. He's really encouraged me too.

We will listen to it. You said that you will work with samuel L session, did you already have the idea of working on the same production with another producer?
Well i finished the track 'land of the midnight sun' and i regularly talk to samuel. I am a big fan of his work. I thought he could do a really good job with the track so i asked him. The remix he has done is amazing too, very special.
And with other producers in 2011, 2012 ?
Well all of the tracks i have forthcoming are solo productions but there are a number of remixes. Obviously the SLS remix and just had remixes of Logical Progression from Steve Rachmad, Jamie Anderson and Jerome Krom. I recently collaborated with a new up and coming producer Chris Page who is also now involed with Affin. We have written a 4 track ep but this is not scheduled for a release yet. I love collaborating with other people, you learn new things which ultimately helps yourself but finiding the time to regularly collaborate is difficult.
Chris page is the man with who you launch kai zen , right ?
Yes Chris is involved in Kai-Zen. Kai-Zen is the name of our partys in London. There are a number of us involved, but I am the founding member. The website incorporates news about the partys, ourselves as producers and our podcast. So the website is a bit of hub for us.
I listened some of your podcasts but didn't know the gigs. It's not very funny, but as you talk about London and you live in london, what is the point of view of an English man about the riots in London ?
Well i live just outside London so i am not directly effected by it. It is a terrible situation though. There seems to be a lot of frustration by the younger generation but there is not excuses for their actions;
Yes i agree but it is an endless debate. we could talk for ages and continue by talking about problems in the world ... but it is not the point. so you said that you always loved detroit's sounds. Can you quote some artists who influenced you.
Hehe yes. So artists such as robert hood, derrick may, steve rachmad, samuel l session are very inspirational. I think i am very lucky to live not to far from fabric in london too. This is such an inspirational place for me. I regularly write tracks with room 2 in mind! I was also lucky to visit berghain and tresor earlier this year, that was incredible.
I've never seen a place like berghain. I never imagined a club like that before I went.
Yes its a crazy place!
I 've been to golden gate club too. Berlin is a great town. i understood why some artists live there. Are you planning to live there ?
Yes i have thought about it, but my life is here in the UK. I also believe the London scene is strong too.
And it would be boring if everyone would go and live in berlin.
Apart fabric, can you tell me other places to go in london ? or can you tell me some things to do in london as a tourist ?
There is a very small club called Public Life which is a bit of a techno institution now. It used to be a public toilet! There are a few other places such as Cable and Corsica Studios which are also very good. Tourism wise, theres so much! I definately recommend going on the London Eye, the views over London are incredible. If you take an open top bus tour, you can get a really good feel for the place too. Also the Saatchi Gallery is definately worth a visit! I have to go in 5 minutes so tell me more about your projects ...
I will travel in London in september thats why I ask you. I take notes. I have to go in a few minutes so can you tell me more about your projects ?
Well i have got another ep forthcoming on Artform in Septmeber called the Crude Awakening ep. I am very excited about this, it is already being supported by Ben Klock. I gave him a cd at berghain with it on and he listened to it and played it there and then! Was pretty crazy
So great, ben klock is an amazing artist.
I know, he's the man right now! also, i have just remixed a track from Chris Page's debut ep on Affin called Busker. I have been asked to do a number of other remixes too which i am looking forward to getting stuck into. I have a track forthcoming on Affin 100 which i am very proud to be involved with. Also more material after that on Affin. so busy busy! oh and dont forget the amazing samuel l session remix ;)

We will follow it for sure and share it on our blog. last question : how do you imagine yourself in 5 years, 10 years ?
I hope that my sound continues to evolve and i can still work with labels like Artform, Affin and Outland. I also would like to dj and travel more as i am very passionate about my djing. I think it is time for people who may of only heard of me for my productions to show them i am a dj too;
Your great mix for us will shows that.
Thank you Florian, it was a pleasure to do. Can I also say that people can catch me playing for Wetyourself @ Fabric on Sunday 28th August in room 2 alongside Chris Liebing and Terence Fixmer.
It should be a great party. Thanks and speak soon and have a nice evening.
Many thanks Florian. Take care
